Sierra Derke

ARCC Leader Since: 2021
Programs as a Leader: South America Gap
Education: Fort Lewis College – BA in Environmental Studies, Minor in Spanish

Sierra was born and raised just outside of Seattle, Washington, exploring the temperate forests, saltwater, and Cascade mountains. Following her love of sunshine, she attended college in Colorado learning new outdoor sports and furthering her passion for the natural world. She spent a semester abroad in Costa Rica where she studied Spanish and interned at a marine park rehabilitating sea turtles. To pursue her love of teaching, Sierra has worked in the experiential education field in California, North Carolina, Wyoming, Peru, and Fiji. With her hope to instill an appreciation for the environment, she works to curate unique and transferable experiences for students and visitors on public lands and wild places. When Sierra is not at work she spends her time backpacking, painting, and constantly looking for sunny places to enjoy the backcountry.
