Trip Leader Position

Your skills and experience in each of our trip categories will play a strong role in determining your qualification for a position and trip placement. We do not conduct specific trip recruitment. All leaders are hired on the basis that they are willing to lead any trip(s) assigned to them based on our assessment of qualifications. Trip Leader Desired Skill Set

  • Ability to provide a safe, fun, educational and noncompetitive environment for the entire group.
  • Experience facilitating groups and working with teenagers.
  • The mental and physical ability to guide participants on programs ranging from 14 to 36 days in duration (24/7).
  • Professional, fun, motivated and enthusiastic individuals who are flexible and creative.
  • Travel (domestic and international) and teaching experience.
  • Ability to multitask, think on your feet, handle logistics and live in a small group setting (24/7).
  • Ability to facilitate games and activities to foster a positive group dynamic.

Additional Desired Skills By Trip Category

Community Service

  • Experience participating in or leading multi-day community service projects and language skills (some programs).
  • Other valuable experience: Peace Corps experience, teaching credentials, immersion programs or language fluency.

Blue Water

  • Experience teaching marine science, comfort and confidence in water-based settings, SCUBA and sailing skills (preferred but not required).
  • Other valuable experience: Advanced SCUBA certifications, US Sailing Basic Keelboat Instructor certification, lifeguard certification, experience working and sailing 40’+ yachts.

Leadership (Wilderness)

  • Experience leading/teaching backcountry wilderness skills including: route finding with map & compass, LNT, cooking, etc.
  • Other valuable experience: NOLS or Outward Bound, LNT certifications, lifeguard certification, or other related outdoor certifications.

Language

  • Fluency in Spanish or French, previous language immersion experience, experience teaching Spanish or French.
  • Other valuable experience: experience living abroad, ability to maintain group experience in foreign language.

Discovery

  • Strong teaching background with experience in environmental education, experience with youth (5th – 7th graders).
  • Other valuable experience: teaching credentials, natural or cultural history, academic background in environmental sciences.
