Job Opportunities
Adventures Cross-Country is seeking Trip Leaders and Field Instructors. Spend the summer leading, teaching, and inspiring teenagers. Travel to some of the world’s most beautiful destinations. Share your passion for the great outdoors.
Company Description
Adventures Cross-Country (ARCC) adventure programs are designed for teenagers (13-18 years old) who want a summer experience that combines trying new activities, exploring new areas, experiencing the independence of traveling with a small group, conquering new challenges, and meeting students from all over the world. In addition to adventure programs for teenagers, ARCC offers environmental education trips for fifth and sixth graders in California, Hawaii and Alaska. These trips focus on an environmental education curriculum composed of natural history, cultural history, leadership, local environmental issues, and the formation of positive group dynamics. The itineraries include a mixture of day hiking, meetings with park rangers and interpreters, visits to historical sites, and various other outdoor activities such as swimming, rock climbing, surfing and horseback riding.
Job Description
ARCC Trip Leaders and Field Instructors focus on fostering constructive group dynamics, facilitating activities and initiatives, overseeing outfitted activities, and ensuring that each person in the group is able to safely achieve certain goals consistent with his or her abilities. ARCC seeks leaders who will be a positive influence on the participants, supporting them throughout the trip and creating a fun, safe, and supportive environment in which they can thrive. Leaders will guide groups of up to sixteen teenagers, with a co-leader, through rigorous adventure programs. The trips are both mentally and physically challenging for leaders and participants, with adventures ranging from fifteen to forty days in duration (twenty-four hours a day). Our leaders and students participate in backpacking, sailing, mountaineering, rock climbing, ice climbing, mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding, rafting, SCUBA diving, surfing, snorkeling, whitewater kayaking, and ocean kayaking. Experience in these activities is helpful, but not required. Other leader responsibilities may include driving a passenger van from the trip starting location and throughout the trip, keeping a daily trip log, communicating with office staff about the status of the trip, and making crucial decisions along the way that may affect the outcome of the trip.
