Do I need to speak Greek or Italian?
Your leaders will speak Italian, Greek, or both. However, if you do speak even a little of either language there will be many opportunities for you to practice your skills. Cultural exposure is one of the things that make’s this trip a lasting experience.
What will the weather be like?
The weather will mostly be very warm to hot during our entire visit. Summertime in the Mediterranean is known for temperatures in the high 70s to 80s Fahrenheit and gentle breezes. Although cooler weather and the occasional shower are possible they are the exception much more than the rule.
How do we get around?
We will be traveling by a variety of methods. Airplane, private coach, train, ferry, sailboat, and public transportation are used to get between destinations. In the cities we use public transportation and our own feet to see the sights.
Where will we sleep?
We will be sleeping in a few different types of lodging. While on the sailboats we sleep onboard. In Athens we sleep at travelers’ hotels or hostels. For much of the time we will be sleeping in 4 - person tents in developed campgrounds complete with toilets, showers, and swimming pools.
Do I need a passport for the trip? What about an entry visa?
You do need a passport to enter a foreign country. Some countries require that your passport have more than 1 year of validity left, so check your expiration date closely and renew if necessary. You do not, however, need an entry visa for a visit to any European country.
What kind of sailboats do we sail on?
Our boats are chartered complete with captain. Each group will have two boats. We do not know the specific size or model in advance, but they are over 44 feet and capable of sleeping 8-10 each.
Do I need to be SCUBA certified to come on this Adventure?
You do not need to be certified in advance, you will have the opportunity to gain certification as a part of the course. If you already have an open water certification you will have the chance to upgrade to an Advanced Diver. Already have your Advanced? There will be ample diving opportunities for you to refine your skills and see some amazing underwater sights.
